Al Musafir Restaurant: Place for a quick Naan fix

Plain Naan $1, Garlic Naan $1.50 You know, sometimes I think that there are pockets of Singapore which are like the Bermuda Triangle where we locals hardly ever venture and not much appears on the radar. Little India is one of them. Sure, every time I ask around for recommendations on Indian food, several names would pop up but when you walk through little India, you can't help but feel that

CAT FIGHT

Here is an email I received from Gwen from Singapore. She is also my GD Spy. I gave her the moniker since she always shares with me the best sale around town. Anyway, it's something I'm sure many of you have been a witness to in shopping crazy Singapore but in an unlikely location. Read on!

"I was visiting a friend today who was in Singapore for a conference and I met her at her hotel lobby. It was around that same time that I experienced something that really took me aback and annoyed me a lot. Two middle-aged women were arguing in a boutique. I've seen catfights before or women arguing over items that they claimed they took off the shelf first, but this took the cake. I mean it wasn't like it was in a regular shopping mall or that they items were going for a big discount. This was a high-end handbag boutique in a 5-Star hotel lobby.

"Since I was waiting outside the boutique, I could see (and hear) everything through the glass window. One woman, I think she sounded Aussie, and a well-dressed Chinese woman who resembled a tai-tai, were arguing about a bag. They both had one hand on the bag and were shouting at each other as the hapless salesgirl looked on terrified. Their shots expanded into expletives and within moments, the Chinese woman pushed the other woman on her chest. The other woman retaliated by pulling at her top which came off quite easily. I need to remind you again that this was two well-heeled women.

"I was feeling embrassed for them even though there were not many people around. As I turned back to look into the store again, the Chinese woman ripped off the blouse of the Caucasian woman and exposed her bra-less chest. I was shocked as I watched both topless women tussle with each other, now pulling at each other's tits.

"I was stunned as they showed no signs of backing down or hiding their modesty. Just then, another salesgirl returned to the store with two security personnel who instructed the salesgirls to shut the blinds, apparently in an attempt to diffuse the confrontation behind closed doors.

"I overheard that one had the bag first while the other claimed that she had already 'booked' the bag but went up to her room to get the money to pay for it. It was shocking that something like this could happen, especially in a high-class boutique."

MS: The only thing missing here is a group of cheering guys yelling out 'Cat Fight! Cat Fight!' I have to add that having money is no assurance that one possesses dignity. The two have no co-relation whatsoever. That said, my filty mind thinks that those two security guys had the blinds shut so that they could 'take their time' to diffuse the situation in view of the generous view of swinging tatas all over the place.

A LEAF FROM MY PAGE

I can't thank all of you enough for your emails that have been pouring in and I appreciate your patience in my getting back to all of you. I'm about half-way there so bear with me.

One interesting one I received is from a Singaporean woman, Hilda, who insists that my Thursday Tease feature has helped her gain the courage to tease her husband of five years more.

Apparently, she has since done lots of online shopping for lingerie and teases her husband every fortnight with a new number. She says that my Thursday Tease has 'inspired her' to be 'more daring and help elevate her relationship to a new level'.

Hurray! If it had that effect, I am so glad. I just feel that life is short and we can only flaunt whatever youth we have left for a limited time, so the sooner we do it, the better we feel. It also has a long term benefit for the relationship.

If you share a little more, and intensify the level of intimacy while you can, your marriage is likely to be able to sustain itself over the long term. Intimacy is a strong glue to any marriage. While there is no certainty that every marriage will survive the challenges ahead, at least by doing so, you are trying rather than sitting on your butt wondering how your life could be better, pondering of whether your made the right choice or wallowing in self-pity that you union has become a tad boring.

Another year older

I’m writing this past the stroke of midnight. Looking back, a lot has happened in the past year. I got engaged. We looked for a new home. Last November, we got married. We renovated our new home this March and moved in, a month later.

Looking forward, I’m still on the right side of 30 - but that won’t be for long!

Which is why, I am happy to announce, that we will be expecting a baby later this year :) It wasn’t something we planned judiciously but we were happy to go along with whatever God had in store for us.

The newspapers have been writing a lot about our ageing society and shrinking local population, and it sounds very much like the fault of people not wanting to get married (which is still the expectation in our conservative society), and married couples not wanting to have children. But this is not the full picture. I know a growing number of people who are still trying to start a family, sometimes at great cost.

So I am not taking our blessings for granted. Here’s to a new year of my life, and to a little new life.
